Abstract: This article focuses on songs by Oswaldo de Souza (1904-1995) and possibilities for their performance today, considering their creative context, dialogic aspects and elements of the current context that are able to activate their meanings efficiently, ensuring their continuous existence as artistic work. Para isto, observa-se o contexto de sua criação e descrições de características imanentes da obra e propõe-se uma sugestão interpretativa, que visa conduzir a uma proposta performática que associa a canção com a literatura de cordel. Resumo: Neste artigo, lança-se o foco sobre a canção de Oswaldo de Souza (1904-1995) e de possibilidades de sua performance para a atualidade, considerando seu contexto criativo, seus aspectos dialógicos e elementos do contexto atual capazes de ativar seus significados de modo eficiente, garantindo sua pervivência como obra artística. This set of similarities supports and confirms the importance of this research as elements of correspondence between literature (poem) and music (melody) are configured, therefore contributing as reference for this didactic and interpretative process of Brazilian chamber music. The observation of thesemantic content available from the poem and the music of the song “Jangada” enables interpreters to build own nuances and expressions of the poetic and musical language of Oswaldo de Souza in this piece. Correlated meanings between literature and music become noticeable after crossing data related to poetic and musical elements of the song. Marco Antonio da Silva Ramos of the University of São Paulo – USP, a bibliographic research conducted by Professor and musician Claudio Augusto Pinto Galvão, na interview by Professor and singer Maria de Fátima de Brito and a juridical report that states that hand-written notes on the song “Jangada” were actually made by Oswaldo de Souza. This analysis was made with reference to the “Referencial de Análise de Obras Corais” by Professor D.
Therefor didactic and interpretative premises are highlighted for the study of Brazilian chamber music.
